A small fishing
village located on the north-western tip of Portugal,
which becomes a popular beach resort during the summer
due to the area's bathing conditions.
Its tiny harbour is
still used by fishing boats, which are guided through
the narrow entrance by specially erected lights.
Of particular
interest is Vila Praia de Ancora fortress (or Fortim da
Lagarteira), a mediaeval defensive process that was
still in use at the end of the 17C, involving the
pouring of hot liquid over assailants.
