Marvão is one the
most spectacular sights of Alentejo. It is a medieval
fortified town perched on one of the São Mamede peaks.
Its altitude
(3,830ft) affords it an uninterrupted view across the
Spanish frontier. The precipitous drop on one side made
it inaccessible to invaders and an ideal defensive
situation.
