Set in the foothills of Monte da Madalena, Ponte de Lima is a typical mountain course, covering six kilometres adorned with luxuriant vegetation and some well-restored old mansions that serve as support facilities. The first nine holes are set amongst age-old trees (chestnuts, cork-trees and oaks), passing through a ravine that leads to Quinta de Anquião, where holes number 1, 2, 8 and 9 provide glorious views over the valley of the River Lima and the city of Viana do Castelo, some 20 kilometres away. The tee at hole number 8 (par 3) stands high up above the fairway and makes it possible to directly attack the green below. The next nine holes are situated in the valley of the Quinta de Pias with its surrounding vineyards, cornfields and apple and pear trees. At 622 metres, hole number 3 (par 5) is the longest hole in Portugal and one of the longest in Europe.
